MISSION PAWSIBLE: CAPITAL CAMPAIGN for Dog Room Remodel & Expansion
Safe Harbor Humane Society is the only open admissions animal shelter in Kenosha County, Wisconsin. Each year we care for thousands of cats, dogs, and other small animals. We have been proudly serving the Kenosha community for over 103 years. We moved to our current building back in the 1980s and with community support were able to complete two renovations which included adding a veterinary/surgery suite, additional lobby space, and two free roaming cat rooms. During this time, our dog room is an area of the shelter that has remained untouched. If you have visited us lately you have noticed it is in need of some serious updates. Our current kennels are too small to provide proper housing for large dogs which make up a majority of our canine population. We currently have no adequate indoor space for adoption meet and greets, behavior testing, or quarantine for new arrivals and sick or injured dogs to recover in a lower stress environment.
The Expansion will:
Double the size of current kennels
Provide larger modern kennels to offer better soundproofing. A quiet environment is better for both the dogs and potential adopters
Provide a proper quarantine area
Indoor interaction room for adoption meet and greets on rainy, snowy, and cold days
Specific enrichment areas to provide dogs with mental stimulation
Private bereavement area for families to help their pets cross over the rainbow bridge
Isolated rooms for kittens and puppies to help keep them healthy and happy until they are placed in foster homes
We have the plans, we have the passion, and now we need your help to make this new dog room a reality. We would like to invite you to do something truly wonderful to help the homeless animals in our community, and improve their lives by improving our facility.
